The Book
This month’s book was House of Salt and Sorrows by Erin A. Craig. with a slight cover change, signed and an exclusive bookmark to match. I’ve heard a lot of good things about it this book so I’m excited to get round to it!
Synopsis
In a manor by the sea, twelve sisters are cursed.
Annaleigh lives a sheltered life at Highmoor, a manor by the sea, with her sisters, their father, and stepmother. Once they were twelve, but loneliness fills the grand halls now that four of the girls’ lives have been cut short. Each death was more tragic than the last—the plague, a plummeting fall, a drowning, a slippery plunge—and there are whispers throughout the surrounding villages that the family is cursed by the gods.
Disturbed by a series of ghostly visions, Annaleigh becomes increasingly suspicious that the deaths were no accidents. Her sisters have been sneaking out every night to attend glittering balls, dancing until dawn in silk gowns and shimmering slippers, and Annaleigh isn’t sure whether to try to stop them or to join their forbidden trysts. Because who—or what—are they really dancing with?
When Annaleigh’s involvement with a mysterious stranger who has secrets of his own intensifies, it’s a race to unravel the darkness that has fallen over her family—before it claims her next.
House of Salt and Sorrows Pin
This month’s pin is designed by Laserbrain Patch Co and it’s super eerie, definitely looks like it’ll be a good match for the book.
Bath Salts
Inspired by The Little Mermaid and from The Soap Librarian, I’m always a fan of anything to make baths a little more relaxing so it’s a great item for me.
Bookmark
I love this woodmark from Juniper & Ivy Designs, but then I would considering it’s inspired by Daughter of the Pirate King and I love that series!
Lantern
This cute little tea light lantern is just adorable! I love when OwlCrate includes things like this, if I ever get my own place I’m pretty sorted with little ornaments thanks to them!
Tea
This is purely a personal thing, I only drink fruit teas so I’m not really a fan of this Sea Witch inspired item, I’m sure others will be though! It’s from the awesome Riddle’s Tea Shoppe.
Pencil Case
This pencil care is inspired by The Scorpio Races and designed by Stella Bookish Art, it’s a beautiful design!
Overall
Surprise surprise, I liked the box a lot again! Definitely looking forward to the book and I can’t get over the cute little lantern.
Next Month – Fear the Night 👻
From OwlCrate themselves:
‘Let’s get spooky! Next month’s box is a delight of frights – perfect for this time of year.
Our book pick for the month is a very unique and atmospheric tale involving a gravedigger, a mapmaker and the undead. It’s not a horror novel, but it’s definitely creepy and will get you in the mood for October.
We’ll be including a gorgeous exclusive edition with an exclusive cover, and the book will be signed by the author!
You can also expect a bunch of awesome goodies inspired by classic scary stories as well as some really wonderful items not tied to fandoms. If you’re a fan of autumn, ghost stories and Halloween this is the perfect box for you!‘
When I was younger I was a massive horror fan, so I’m kinda looking forward to this box because maybe it’ll bring some of my old likes back? The book sounds interesting too, and anything to get me in the mood for Halloween is a winner for me!
