Busy, busy, busy month for me! I had a day trip to Ingleton at the start of the month, lots of birthdays, and a trip to London with my mum.
Reading
Okay so I read five books in May, and I’m fairly happy with that! I’ve read:
The Beast’s Heart by Leife Shallcross – ★★★★★
I really enjoyed this retelling of Beauty and the Beast from the Beast’s POV, it was a very magical read too!
The Belles by Dhonielle Clayton – ★★★★
This was such a different idea that I just fell in love with it, a fantasy world where special Belle’s can change your appearance to however you’d like! I love the authors explanation for it at the end — that she wanted to explore how far people would go and the ugly side of beauty.
Geekerella by Ashley Poston – ★★★★★
A ridiculously cute and nerdy take on a classic fairytale! There was no doubt that I’d love this.
Daughter of the Pirate King by Tricia Levenseller – ★★★★★
Review coming soon for this book and the second in the duology but I absolutely adored the both of them! (I finished the second in June so technically still five books for May!)
Queen of Shadows by Sarah J. Maas – ★★★★★
I’ve been reading this for months but I just didn’t want it to end because I’m very aware that we’re coming to the end of Throne of Glass AND I DON’T WANT IT TO EVER END. Can we have like… a Thronemore or something after with updates of Aelin’s life? I think I’ll be needing something like that…
I also got the chance to meet Madeline Miller, author of Circe, and get my book signed at Manchester Deansgate Waterstones!
Trips
If you were expecting to never see photos from me again… think again! The first May bank holiday had us on a trip round Jumbles Country Park and then also round Ingleton (which, by the way, is a very, very long walk – but pretty!):
Jumbles
Ingleton
And as well as those little walking trips of course was London avec ma mere! We got to go to Kings Cross (where I got a personalised Hogwarts acceptance letter from the Platform 9 and 3/4 shop…), Foyles Book Store (where I grabbed the last two of Alwyn Hamilton’s Rebel of the Sands series, both signed! And then on the Saturday we went to Heroes and Villains Fan Fest! Thanks to my uncle we also stayed in a Hilton overnight on the Friday which was awesome.
My dissertation for my Masters Degree is due in at the end of June, so if you don’t hear from me as much then that’ll be why! In July I’ll be attending two book events though so I’m seriously excited for that!
