The theme for FairyLoot’s April 2021 box was Hidden Identities and it contained items inspired by Lord of the Rings, The Flame in the Mist, From Blood and Ash, The Daevabad Trilogy, The Poppy War, Blood Heir and An Ember in the Ashes.
I adored this box, the items are just fantastic and the book is one of my favourites I’ve read this year! FairyLoot really do pick some awesome books. The box was almost my favourite, it was just slightly overtaken by another in a last minute contender…
Check out all the items below.
The Book
This month’s book was Prison Healer by Lynette Noni, it’s another book I read this year and fell in love with so I’m super happy to have this FairyLoot copy! You can read my review here but it was a 5-star read for me 💜
The FairyLoot edition comes with a colour change for the exclusive cover, sprayed and stenciled edges, exclusive foil embossing on the case from @talia.nobel, artwork on the reverse of the dust jacket by @alicemariapower, bonus content at the back of the book (rules for the Trial by Ordeal) AND is signed! It also comes with an author letter, the reverse featuring character art by @talia.nobel.
Synopsis
Here at Zalindov, the only person you can trust is yourself.
Seventeen-year-old Kiva Meridan is a survivor. For ten years, she has worked as the healer in the notorious death prison, Zalindov, making herself indispensable. Kept afloat by messages of hope from her family, Kiva has one goal and one goal only: stay alive.
Then one day the infamous Rebel Queen arrives at the prison on death’s door and Kiva receives a new message: Don’t let her die. We are coming.
The queen is sentenced to the Trial by Ordeal: a series of elemental challenges against the torments of air, fire, water, and earth, assigned to only the most dangerous of criminals. Aware the sickly queen has little chance of making it through the Trials alive, Kiva volunteers to take her place. If she succeeds, both she and the queen will be granted their freedom.
But no one has ever survived.
And with an incurable plague sweeping Zalindov, a mysterious new inmate fighting for Kiva’s heart, and a prison rebellion brewing, Kiva can’t escape the terrible feeling that her trials have only just begun.
From bestselling Australian author Lynette Noni comes a masterful and action-packed YA fantasy perfect for fans of Sarah J. Maas and Sabaa Tahir.
Metal Bookends
Well, I wasn’t expecting LOTR bookends. But I’m also not complaining at all because these are stunning. They were designed by @jezhawk and currently hold my Tolkien books – though I have been advised that when I end up living with Jordan they’ll be effectively his bookends. Anyway, love them. Of course.
Soap
By Little Heart Gifts, this handmade soap is such a lovely scent! It’s inspired by Flame in the Mist and has lovely pink and white swirls on it.
Tote Bag
Have I read From Blood and Ash? No. Will I love it? Yes. So any merch inspired by the book is good with me! This tote bag has character art on one side by @arz28, the other side features a pattern so you get a little balance!
Enamel Pin
As a pin collector, I will never complain at pins. This Daevabad-inspired pin is so intricate! It’s designed by @_iceydesigns.
Foiled Bookmarks
These bookmarks are just beautiful! They’re inspired by Blood Heir, The Poppy War and An Ember in the Ashes, all featuring artwork from @talia.nobel.
Tarot Cards
This month’s tarot cards are designed by @morgana0anagrom and are inspired by Serpent & Dove. This is a book I’m dying to get round to because I think I’ll really enjoy it, waiting until the third book arrives so I can blitz through though!
Overall
I do not have a single bad thing to say about this box and I loved every aspect of it! Of course, the book is the main thing and I just adore the customisations. I’ll always be a fan of a purple-flip too since it’s my favourite colour so yep, very happy!
Next Month – Spellcraft 🖤
From FairyLoot themselves:
‘We are so excited to reveal the May theme for our monthly box and it is… SPELLCRAFT!
Isn’t it so interesting how in stories there are different types of magic and different ways for spells to be cast? Casting spells and magic almost always comes at a price and depending on the toll… what would you be willing to sacrifice?
In this box you can expect items inspired by Serpent & Dove, Throne of Glass, Raybearer, Crave and there will be an item that is not inspired by any fandoms. For now, we are revealing that this box will have a beautiful tumbler designed by the one and only @chattynora!
Our featured book of the month is a Jamaican-inspired fantasy about two enemy witches who must enter into a deadly alliance to take down a common enemy. This FairyLoot exclusive edition will have an EXCLUSIVE COMPLETELY REDESIGNED COVER, STENCIL EDGES ON ALL THREE EDGES, ARTWORK ON THE REVERSE OF THE DUST JACKET by @eunicify.art, FOIL EMBOSSING ON THE CASE, A RIBBON BOOKMARK and will be SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR. You are not prepared for how stunning this edition will be!’
Let’s focus on the main stand out here… stencil designs on ALL edges? Heck yes, this book is going to be stunning!
In terms of fandoms, I’m most excited to see the Throne of Glass item but I’m sure the Serpent & Dove item will be another great addition!
But yeah, all-in-all I’m most excited for the book. Anything else will be a bonus!
