The theme for FairyLoot’s July 2021 box was Tales Retold and it contained items inspired by Spin The Dawn, A Court of Thorns and Roses, The Star-Touched Queen, Cinderella is Dead and Heartless.
Yep… Favourite FairyLoot box I’ve ever got for the Spin the Dawn item and book itself alone, completely and utterly in love.
Check out all the items below.
The Book
This month’s book was Six Crimson Cranes by Elizabeth Lim, I absolutely fell over head over heels for this book so I was so excited for it to be included! You can read my review here, and… I may have suggested to my fave tattoo artist to get FairyLoot and she also read and loved this book, so yep, I’m getting a crane tattoo from Kerry-Louu later this year! Mega excited.
The FairyLoot edition has a colour change for the cover, sprayed and stencilled crane edges (including a lil’ Kiki), artwork on the reverse of the dust jacket by @sallteas, foil embossing on the case designed by the same artist, is signed by the author and also comes with an author letter featuring character artwork on the reverse by @sallteas again! I absolutely adore Sally Pham’s work and it makes this edition even more special, added to that the cover art from @afterblossom_art and the whole package is just perfection!
Usually I’ll put a little collage here with pics of the book, but it wouldn’t do it justice enough so there are more pics at the bottom of this post! 💜
Synopsis
Shiori, the only princess of Kiata, has a secret. Forbidden magic runs through her veins. Normally she conceals it well, but on the morning of her betrothal ceremony, Shiori loses control. At first, her mistake seems like a stroke of luck, forestalling the wedding she never wanted, but it also catches the attention of Raikama, her stepmother.
Raikama has dark magic of her own, and she banishes the young princess, turning her brothers into cranes, and warning Shiori that she must speak of it to no one: for with every word that escapes her lips, one of her brothers will die.
Penniless, voiceless, and alone, Shiori searches for her brothers, and, on her journey, uncovers a conspiracy to overtake the throne—a conspiracy more twisted and deceitful, more cunning and complex, than even Raikama’s betrayal. Only Shiori can set the kingdom to rights, but to do so she must place her trust in the very boy she fought so hard not to marry. And she must embrace the magic she’s been taught all her life to contain—no matter what it costs her.
Umbrella
This umbrella is from Team FairyLoot and is inspired by Heartless by Marissa Meyer, which is an Alice in Wonderland retelling! I haven’t read the book but with this being cards and thorns it could easily count as an Alice in Wonderland item, and I love that!
Book Sleeve
I really did think that the book sleeve from @rosiethorns88 would be the ACOTAR item, and I was SO happy to be wrong! (There’s enough ACOTAR book sleeves in the world, let’s be honest). This is inspired by Spin the Dawn by Elizabeth Lim and it is, without a doubt, my favourite book sleeve now.
Tin
I love @chattynora‘s work and this ACOTAR tin is no exception! The colours are beautiful and the design is stunning. The quote featured is: ‘Be glad of your human heart. Pity those who don’t feel anything at all.’
Foiled Print
This foiled print features art from @kavon_kayleigh. I haven’t read The Star-Touched Queen Series by Roshani Chokshi but this is definitely adorable art!
Socks
Socks. Honestly, I love socks in the boxes because I always end up wearing them! These are designed by @catarinabookdesigns and are inspired by Cinderella Is Dead by Kalynn Bayron. Love how they’re purple and blue too!
Tarot Cards
This month’s tarot cards are again designed by @morgana0anagrom and feature Tella and Legend from Caraval by Stephanie Garber! Stunning cards.

Overall
Let’s be honest, with both Six Crimson Cranes and a Spin the Dawn item I was never going to dislike this box, it’s most definitely my all-time favourite and I’m SO excited to see the FairyLoot Blood of Stars set next to Six Crimson Cranes! I have a little Elizabeth Lim display on my shelves too, complete with cranes and a green dragon figure!
Next Month – Lovestruck 🖤
From FairyLoot themselves:
‘We are so excited to reveal the August theme for our monthly box and it is… LOVESTRUCK!
Romances that pull on your heartstrings are the best kind, whether it wrecks you or completes you! This theme is inspired by characters that fall in love without expecting to, which can lead to wholesome… or sometimes angsty entanglements.
In this box you can expect items inspired by Cemetary Boys, Caraval, These Violent Delights and A River of Royal Blood. We are thrilled to reveal that this box will have TWO books! The second book is a paperback with an EXCLUSIVE COVER, SPRAYED EDGES and a DIGITAL SIGNATURE. We won’t be revealing the title of this amazing book but we will give you this hint: reaper romance!
Our featured book of the month is a sexy, action-packed fantasy about a girl who is caught between two treacherous faerie courts. The FairyLoot exclusive edition will have an EXCLUSIVE COVER, STENCIL & SPRAYED EDGES, ARTWORK ON THE REVERSE OF THE DUST JACKET by @sashac_art, FOIL EMBOSSING ON THE CASE by @sashac_art and will be SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR. It is gorgeous!’
The FairyLoot team is 100% treating us this year, the main book for August is another I’ve read and seriously loved and I’m just so excited to see the FairyLoot edition! I’m also super excited to see the Caraval item because I’ll forever love that series.

The book & prints are so pretty !!
Though tarot cards are always so beautiful and one of my favorites.. it kinda wierd me how there’s only two- like you can’t really use them unless you get all the boxes/there’s a way that you can buy the rest of the set.
I do love the umbrella too! there’s just something so nice with cards as a pattern ahaah
