May’s Illumicrate box was themed ‘Change Your Stars’ and featured items inspired by Girls of Paper and Fire, Spinning Silver, Skyward, The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue and City of Brass. It included the newest collectible item and, yet again, a beautiful book!
Check out all the items below.
The Book
This month’s book was The Jasmine Throne by Tasha Suri, which I finished reading this week and absolutely loved so I’m very happy that Illumicrate included it in this month’s box!
The Illumicrate edition comes with exclusive stencil edges, that are perfect for the plant-based elements of the book, and hidden foiling under the cover. There was also a signed bookplate and character art included. The monthly collectors pin was designed by @stacey.mcevoy.caunt and it’s inspired by the Hirana featured in the book.
Synopsis
Author of Empire of Sand and Realm of Ash Tasha Suri’s The Jasmine Throne, beginning a new trilogy set in a world inspired by the history and epics of India, in which a captive princess and a maidservant in possession of forbidden magic become unlikely allies on a dark journey to save their empire from the princess’s traitor brother.
Imprisoned by her dictator brother, Malini spends her days in isolation in the Hirana: an ancient temple that was once the source of the powerful, magical deathless waters — but is now little more than a decaying ruin.
Priya is a maidservant, one among several who make the treacherous journey to the top of the Hirana every night to clean Malini’s chambers. She is happy to be an anonymous drudge, so long as it keeps anyone from guessing the dangerous secret she hides.
But when Malini accidentally bears witness to Priya’s true nature, their destinies become irrevocably tangled. One is a vengeful princess seeking to depose her brother from his throne. The other is a priestess seeking to find her family. Together, they will change the fate of an empire.
Book Sleeve
This book sleeve features artwork by @pauhami and is inspired by Spinning Silver by Noami Novik. I haven’t read the book but this sleeve is definitely featuring beautiful art!
Enamel Pin
This is definitely now one of my favourite pins. It’s part of a series called ‘Novel Threads’ by @blissfullybookishtees, featuring gorgeous outfits from books so this being a Girls of Paper and Fire inspired pin is just… perfect. I love it. I loved the book, Natasha Ngan is adorable (I met her at the last YALC), and this pin is beautiful.
Sketchbook
Designed by @rena.illustration and inspired by The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab, this is such a lovely looking sketchbook!
Tea Tin
Okay so how stunning is this item?! It features mythical creatures from S.A. Chakraborty’s Daevabad Trilogy and I’m head over heels for the artwork by @lioninthetrees.
Illumikey
This little key is a part of Illumicrate’s new collectible series and is a key inspired by Skyward by Brandon Sanderson, designed by @dalandan.ielle. I think it looks so cute! Excited to see more from the series.
Overall
How can I say anything bad when a box includes such beautiful items? I loved every one, but of course I’m head over heels for the Novel Threads pin and tea tin especially!
Next Month – Out of the Woods 💛
From Illumicrate themselves:
‘Our June theme is OUT OF THE WOODS!
Our book this month is a debut standalone fantasy inspired by Jewish folklore and Hungarian history. The only power-less woman in a pagan village, surrendered as a sacrifice, and the disgraced prince in disguise as a captain of the king’s holy order, must work together first to survive a perilous journey, then to try and prevent the prince’s brother from seizing the throne. If the plot is successful, it will mean a violent reign of cultural and ethnic cleansing. Together they could save a nation, if they don’t betray one another first. We loved this thought-provoking read with its rich fantasy world and perfect example of enemies to lovers romance. If you love Nina and Matthias of Six of Crows, you are going to adore this one!
Our Illumicrate edition features all exclusive: cover, reverse dust jacket art by @warickaart, foil embossing on the hardback, stencilled edges and is signed by the author! This is one of our most stunning books this year and we adore it! Both the full box and book only option will come with a matching pin designed by @stacey.mcevoy.caunt!
We’ve put a very aesthetic, woodsy box together featuring items inspired by Lord of the Rings, We Hunt the Flame, Among the Beasts and Briars, an officially licensed The Darkest Part of the Forest item and more! We’re pleased to announce this box will feature the next of our ‘Piece Your Own Story’ jigsaw puzzles! The latest @rosiethorns88 mug won’t be in this box, instead it is in July’s.

Genuinely, Illumicrate could have announced that there was item inspired by Among the Beasts and Briars and I’d have been all over this box. I’m SO excited for that item it’s unreal, but then also LOTR (which is from their puzzle series, as announced) and an item for The Darkest Part of the Forest by Holly Black. Cannot. Wait.
Book looks good too, always a fan of a standalone! And very excited to see the edges since they’re stencilled again!
