Hey loves! Today’s post is a little different… I attended my first bookish event in years last month, the Hodderscape Winter Ball 2022, and I loved it so much I just wanted to post a little write-up for it!
Read on to hear more about the evening, I won’t be sharing any sneak peeks; you’ll just have to trust me when I say that things Hodderscape has planned for the next couple of years are looking extremely good. 💜
A huge thank you to Hodderscape for running the competition to attend, and for the below goodie bag!
The Venue
The event was held within the basement at Waterstones Tottenham Court Road, and it looked so gorgeous! Upon arrival there was a huge collection of goodie bags for people to take at the end (including some very exciting proofs, but more on that later!) and cocktails themed on Shanghai Immortal by A. Y. Chao, Sing Me to Sleep by Gabi Burton and Dragonfall by L.R. Lam. I can only vouch for Vampire’s Kiss (the Shanghai Immortal inspired drink) as it was the only one I tried, but it was delicious and I’m sure the others were also! There were little cute canapés of food throughout the event too!
There were cover displays, a photo booth and temporary tattoos too! The covers were spread around as posters, and a few have since been revealed (including the Bargainer series and Court of the Undying Seasons by A.M. Strickland), and we’ve also had Mindbreaker by Kate Dylan revealed (Set in the same world as the brilliant Mindwalker, I can’t wait for it)!
There may be more to come, and if there were more I’d be saying that I was very excited for those reveals…
Presentation
A little while in there was a presentation celebrating some of Hodderscape’s amazing books so far, with announcements of even more reveals to come! We got a sneak peek at a 2024 title also that sounds pretty awesome, The City of Stardust by Georgia Summers. At the end, we got to hear that Hodderscape is becoming a dedicated imprint!
Authors
There were a few Hodderscape authors in attendance, including: Laura Sebastian, A. Y. Chao, L.R. Lam, Grace Curtis and Sangu Mandanna. I’ll be real honest, I was too shy[/scared of embarrassing myself] to say hello to anyone, but it was still awesome 💜
The Proofs
Okay so I don’t feel worthy enough for these but the goodie bag was insane! Proofs included were…
- The Ones We Burn by Rebecca Mix (out now!)
- Spice Road by Maiya Ibrahim (January 2023)
- The Last Tale of the Flower Bride by Roshani Chokshi (February 2023)
- Frontier by Grace Curtis (March 2023)
- Sing Me to Sleep by Gabi Burton (June 2023)
- Immortal Longings by Chloe Gong (July 2023)
To say I’m grateful for these is an understatement to be honest. I had already received a proof of Spice Road, so that one was gifted to the lovely Moon, but absolutely every one of them sounds amazing and I can’t wait to read them!
Pals
Last, but not least… I got to attend with a plus one so brought the lovely Lilly with me, and I met Divya for the first time which was lovely too! I wish I’d had more courage to speak to more people when I was there, but I fear for a lot it would have been me saying something along the lines of: ‘I love what you do and I really admire it’ along with some stuttering. I’ll work on that for any future bookish events though, I’m just very out of practice when it comes to talking in person to people.
2022 Hodderscape
I want to note that I wasn’t invited to this event, I won a ticket through a competition so all views are just from the heart! I have loved Hodderscape for a while, and the team has a habit of publishing books that quickly become my favourites! A little wrap-up below of the top 10 books I loved that released through Hodderscape this year, in no particular order (click the links if you’re interested in seeing why I loved them):
- The City of Dusk by Tara Sim
- The Girl Who Fell Beneath the Sea by Axie Oh
- The Darkening by Sunya Mara
- The Drowned Woods by Emily Lloyd-Jones
- Mindwalker by Kate Dylan
- Violet Made of Thorns by Gina Chen
- Only a Monster by Vanessa Len
- The Dragon’s Promise by Elizabeth Lim
- This Vicious Grace by Emily Thiede
- Castles in Their Bones by Laura Sebastian
